I would still consider using hot gas bypass defrosting for slightly higher temperatures like between 0 oC and -6 oC, as long as I arrange the minimum hot gas transfer that can satisfy my system, I don't think I would run out of hot gas. The purpose is not to use electrical heater as long as possible to prevent inefficiencies, whereas hot gas bypass would have minor damage to the performance.

    What do you think?

    Thank You for this Update.
However, in the marketing of AK-CC55 Controller for energy management in Coldroom, Hot gas defrost was promoted because energy consumption is lesser to Heater.
So, What is the best approach to reducing energy consumption in Coldroom? I am asking this question because I want to start marketing this application here in Nigeria.
Also, if I decided to use hot gas defrost for a system with ONE Evaporator can I place a small heater on the Accumulator to help boil the gas for feeding the Compressor and placing an Evaporator regulator after the Accumulator to regulate gas flow?

  3. Derrick en Buenos Aires says:

I suppose a good example of hot gas defrost on smaller units would be the coca-cola vertical fridges or pepsi fridges that I've come across.
The modern ones do use hot gas with the elstat controller, older versions have heat strips. Your defrost all depends on timing. I wouldn't have the hot gas programmed for a run time as if they were heaters.

  4. VTdarkangel says:

It can be done, but it would resemble a heat pump with reversing valves or something approximating them. Then you have to figure out how to mitigate post defrost liquid and suction pressure to protect the compressor.

  5. NAVEEN PATWAL says:

Can you share design/drawing of defrosting by re-evaporator hot gas defrost system. We have direct cool ice block making machine. And want to redesign it. As defrost cycle time is long.
